Cork is an amazing 100% natural material, harvested from the bark of Cork Oak trees. It is collected every 9 years and transformed, the process is free of any artificial chemicals and adapted for several different uses. Harvesting cork benefits the tree as it helps it to rejuvenate. Over the course of cork tree lifetime, which on average lasts 200 years, it can be stripped around 17 times.
Cork retains an elevated portion of CO2 during its life. In fact, harvested cork trees absorb 3-5 times more CO2 than non-harvested trees. The Portuguese forest study center tried to work out exactly how much CO2 cork removes from the atmosphere. Their conclusion was astonishing: 1 tone of cork production removes 73 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere.
Cork material is perfect for environmental friendly fashion.
